Late Nights

School is starting very soon and I'm sure I would need to get used to the late nights and early mornings again. This inevitable truth makes me very sad indeed.
While it is true for some people who have an incredible amount of self-control that school may mean only more productive learning and not the often accommodating fatigue, it is not true for me. I wish it was. Some people suggested making a schedule for your daily activities. However, it is so easy for me to go off schedule...

School

School is now right around the corner.
  I miss summer already.
This is going to be the last summer I have where I can actually enjoy myself.
It feels as if time has gone by so fast.
Eleventh grade is going to be chaotic
  I know already.
Hopefully this year I will not procrastinate
  or do anything wrong.
Lets all hope for a nice and engaging year
where we all have lots to gain from
  this poem sucks
  but than again
  it's not really a poem
  Okay.

Maximum Ride

So I read another YA novel, though this one is a little bit different. Maximum Ride, unlike its YA counterparts, is relatively less focused on romance. In fact, The first book in the series- The Angel Experiment is almost romance-free( gasp).
The story is about a group of genetically engineered kids who grew bird wings and can fly. To make things even more complicated, their wings were added to them after they were born in painful, inhumane experiments. The pack has been running  from those evil scientist responsible for their wings and the scientists's evil dogs ever since they escaped. The Maximum Ride series is essentially about how they managed to survive and go through the usual teenager issues.
I actually like Maximum Ride because it has managed to surprise me, which is rare in YA novels nowadays. A lot of these young adult novels are sticking with what works, and is not experimenting with new things. Eventually, even non-geniuses like myself can figure out how the plot is going to go ( one girl, two guys...same old same old). The Maximum Ride series is filled with action of unexpected events. The plot is also quite nice.

Delirium

Delirium is a dystopian YA novel about a world which love is seen as a disease and those who are infected by it turn into mad men.
I actually read this book awhile ago and it fulfilled my expectations. It is exactly what a YA novel should be like physically and content-wise. It has an interesting cover of the face of a girl, and it is fairly thick so the reader can feel a sense of pride by the time they finish. THe plot context goes : 1) main character girl with the poetic name was satisfied with society, 2) she broke the rules for the first time thanks to her rebellious best friend, 3) meets the guy of her dreams, 4) have a fight with the guy of her dreams even though they just met, 5) meet the guy of her dreams again later even they fought, 6) become rebellious herself, 7) run away to freedom and the wilderness of the unknown, 8) the guy makes a sacrifice and gets injured at some point in the novel( sometimes optional).
Delirium is exactly how I imagined it would be. Not to say that's a bad thing, because the plot and the cover strategy may be what got so many people hooked in the first place.

Power Failure

This summer in PAS there was a power failure. I am not absolutely sure about the reason for the blackout, but I think it has something to do with the power box malfunction. For two weeks or so we had SAT classes in the neighboring Guang-Fu High School. I thought it was interesting to have a change in environment every once in awhile. After all, Guang-Fu is a lot bigger than our small PAS campus.
I don't want to be corny, but going into the classrooms brought forth a wave of nostalgia. Not that I've actually attended Guan-Fu before, it is the local school setting that really got to me. It occurred to me for the first time that perhaps I do miss having a big campus ,  having a chalk board( I love to draw on that. It's really fun) , and a  home room where you actually stay in for the most of the day.
With that being said, being at PAS definitely does have its own perks as well. I definitely will not miss the hot summer days and the filthy bathroom stalls that are typical to almost every local school.

Swimming

I went swimming with my family several times this summer because my mom was all for my brother and I to get more exercise. She claimed that the two of us are always on our computers in our every waking hours for both homework and leisure, which is unhealthy.
The thing is that I haven't swam for a long while and at first couldn't even remember how to do even the most fundamental things. Fortunately, it only took a few minutes before I remembered everything that was been taught to me the summer I learned to swim. Sure I was panting heavily after only a few rounds, and oh yeah I probably wasn't positioning my hand correctly, but nobody cares about that kind of stuff in the public pool.
The two stories high red water slide is still at the side of the pool. Funny, I remembered it to be much more intimidating and fun. Getting a little too old for this type of stuff, I suppose.
Anyways, I enjoyed swimming this summer. It was a nice change from my otherwise monotonous schedule.

Keeping a Diary

It must have been every girl's wish(fantasy, for some of us)in at least one point in their lives to keep a daily journal. When I was little, I wanted to keep a diary that I write everyday. I wanted to be able to compose something that I can look back ten years from now, and relive my life through the eyes of a mini-me.
Some things, such as keeping a diary, however, just wasn't meant for everybody. Keeping a diary means perseverance, and unfortunately for me, I do not have that. Here goes the routine :1) I happily purchase a brand new notebook and pencil, 2) write down an extra long first day entry out of bubbly enthusiasm, 3) write a follow-up entry one week after because I forgot to update my diary the next day the way I was supposed to, 4) forget about the diary altogether,  5) suddenly find the book someday in an abandoned corner of the house, 6) reread the entries, 7) gently chastise myself( but never too harshly because I don't want to break my own heart)for being lazy and forgetful, 8) run to the nearest store to buy a new notebook and pen for a fresh new beginning, and  9) return to step 2
I find diary keepers very admirable, because just the fact that they are able to continue this activity speaks volumes about their character. In truth, I believe diaries are the most revealing and un-restricting form of writing known, which is the reason that they are so much fun to write and to read......
  Hmph...
Well, time to run down to  the store again.
