High school musical + cruel high school popularity food chain = Glee.
Glee is a musical comedy on how a group of high school underdogs persevered and prevailed thanks to the Glee club, wonderfully ran by their spanish later turned history teacher(though the subject of his teaching is not important here) Mr. Shue. The show choir club is composed of quite an interesting pack: There is Rachel Barry, the Broadway star wannabe, Finn Hudson- the popular jock, Quinn Fabray-the popular cheerleader, Santana and Brittney- the two other popular cheerleaders, Artie- a student who is confined in a wheelchair, and Tina- shy, asian girl who had a stutter. Together, the group proved to be wholesome and talented enough to win sectionals , but not enough to win regional even though everybody has done their absolute best.
Although glee does have its cheesy side, which is unfortunate yet quite inevitable, Season 1 actually has quite a good storyline. I liked how the characters are so different yet still managed to all end up at the bottom of the high school food chain. Aside from that, I actually liked some of the oldies Glee has introduced to me.
Glee does have quite a diverse and somewhat talented cast. Almost everyone in the club can sing, and a few of them are actually good dancers. The performance they give together can be so enjoyable you sometimes wonder how these students end up being unpopular in the first place.
